MOST POLICIES IN THE CAROLINAS ARE COVERED
Specific Insurance Providers Accepted and Service Coverages
- Aetna Insurance: most plans cover our services. Co-pays are common.
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance: Most plans cover free and unlimited sessions with a Dietitian. Lots of very good plans. Denials are rare.
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance Federal Employees: Free-Unlimited sessions w/ a Dietitian. The feds want and need you to be healthy and BCBSNC is with you!
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance State Employees (Teachers! Anyone who works for NC State and has BCBS NC State health plan): Most plans cover Nutrition Counseling @ 100%. Call us for details.
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance Out-Of-State Employees Usually through your employer. These plans are subject to your Company’s tweaks and whichever state the plan is from. Though remember, this is nutrition counseling. Most employers want healthy employees. Denials are rare.
- Cigna: Most plans cover 3 visits per year; Some plans have a co-pay whereas some plans do not.
- Humana: Most plans have 100% coverage, however refer to your policy for more details.
- Medicare: Medicare has very specific coverages. Please call MDD for details regarding your Medicare coverages. Diagnosis of Diabetes is covered @ 100%
- United Health Care: Coverage varies: Any combo is common: Paid claims, copays and denials, oh my! It’s not US (MDD) it’s THEM! UHC is why we have ‘special’ polices.
- Medcost: This policy is new. Coverage is still being determined.
- Tricare: Military Benefits. MDD thanks you for your service- Most plans cover our services. If your first appointment is not covered- MDD will discount 50%- again, thank you for your service.
- HealthTeam Advantage: 2022 Update- Great plan. Denials are very rare.

Most insurance plans cover Nutrition Counseling. In 2023 over 89% of our clients had 100% coverage. You can also call your carrier and simply ask “What are my benefits for CPT code 97802” and listen to your benefits.
